Mile 1 · Getting started

Before You Move

A simple, honest timeline, not a wall of text. Here's what actually needs to happen, and roughly when.

8–10 weeks out

Lock in your plan

  • Set your budget, including moving costs, deposits, and a cushion for surprises
  • Decide: rent first to learn the area, or buy right away
  • Start pre-approval conversations with a lender
  • Request time off or remote-work approval for moving days
4–6 weeks out

Narrow the search

  • Pick your target city
  • Book a visit or virtual tour of neighborhoods
  • Research school zones if you have kids
  • Get moving quotes from at least two companies
2–3 weeks out

Handle the paperwork

  • Submit a change of address with USPS
  • Transfer or cancel utilities at your old address
  • Start utility accounts at your new one
  • Gather school, medical, and vet records
Moving week

Land and settle

  • Confirm move-in walkthrough and keys
  • Update your driver's license and vehicle registration (Arkansas gives you 30 days)
  • Register to vote in your new county
  • Take a breath. You made it.

This is just a snapshot.
